Guided TC-ECO Infiltrative Therapy is a treatment involving injections performed under ultrasound or CT guidance, without the use of contrast media or anesthesia. The use of ultrasound or CT in infiltrative therapies allows for more precise injection of the pharmacological substance into the joint and avoids inadvertently injecting it into vascular or nervous structures.

Guided TC-ECO infiltrative therapy is particularly indicated in patients with knee (gonarthrosis), hip (coxarthrosis), spinal (spondylosis), shoulder, and hand finger (rhizarthrosis) osteoarthritis.

The treatment also allows, in patients with arthropathic pain:

  • to reduce potential side effects due to prolonged use of anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs such as gastropathy, hypertension, diabetes, etc.)
  • to reduce the potential risk of pathological fracture in patients with osteopenia or osteoporosis, due to the effect of anti-inflammatory/analgesic corticosteroid therapies that can further exacerbate calcium catabolism

“Deep infiltrative therapy” includes Ozonotherapy and Pharmacological Infiltrations.

OZONOTHERAPY

Oxygen-ozone therapy is an outpatient treatment based on a mixture of ozone and oxygen, particularly effective against pain and inflammation. Ozone is indeed a bactericidal, fungicidal, and virus-inactivating agent, also produced by our body for defense against bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Benefits of Ozonotherapy

  • Antibacterial and antiviral action
  • Anti-inflammatory action, allowing the increase of anti-inflammatory cytokines and the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines, as well as stimulating neoangiogenesis and the activation of endogenous antioxidant mechanisms that counteract the action of free radicals
  • Analgesic effect, as it promotes the release of endorphins
  • Revitalizing effect, as it increases the supply of oxygen to peripheral tissues

Who is Ozonotherapy recommended for?

Ozonotherapy is recommended for patients suffering from:

  • back, neck, and upper limb pain (lumbosciatica, lumbocruralgia, and cervicobrachialgia) due to spinal column pathologies such as disc herniation or disc protrusion
  • painful joint pathologies, such as arthritis and rheumatism.

How is Ozonotherapy performed?

The treatment is carried out through paravertebral intramuscular injections (in the area of the spine where the pain is localized) and has no side effects.

Since discomfort may be felt in the first few minutes after infiltration, at least for the first session, it is recommended that the patient be accompanied. It is also recommended to avoid making efforts or lifting weights on the same day.

PHARMACOLOGICAL INFILTRATIONS

Pharmacological infiltrations mainly use:

  • steroidal anti-inflammatories (corticosteroids or corticosteroids) in inflammatory forms
  • hyaluronic acid derivatives in degenerative forms, intra-articularly or peri-articularly

local anesthetics (lidocaine), used solely for pain relief via peri-articular route (especially in case of tendon, ligament, and muscle pathologies)
