Professor Simone Albisinni, urologist at the clinic, explains when women should also consider consulting this specialist.

“Many people believe that the urologist is only a doctor for men, but this is not true,”
explains Professor Albisinni.
“The urologist is also responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the female urinary system.”

Urinary tract conditions are not limited to the male population.

Women, too, may experience a number of disorders that require a urological evaluation.

Among the most common are:

• urinary tract infections (UTIs)
• cystitis
• kidney stones
• urinary incontinence

In some cases, more serious conditions may also occur, such as kidney or bladder tumors, which can also affect women.

Symptoms that should never be ignored

One of the most important warning signs to pay close attention to is the presence of blood in the urine.

“Women should never ignore this symptom,”
the specialist warns.

Very often, it is automatically attributed to a simple infection or cystitis.

However, in some cases, blood in the urine may be a sign of a more serious underlying problem.

“Sometimes blood in the urine can conceal more significant conditions, such as bladder polyps,”
the urologist explains.

Which tests are needed for further evaluation?

For this reason, it is essential not to delay further investigations when this type of symptom appears.

“If there is blood in the urine, it is important to stop, assess the issue with a urologist, and undergo the appropriate tests,”
Professor Albisinni emphasizes.

Among the most useful examinations are:

• cystoscopy, which allows direct visualization of the inside of the bladder
• a complete ultrasound of the urinary tract, to assess the kidneys and urinary pathways

These investigations help identify any abnormalities and rule out more serious conditions.

A urologist is not a specialist dedicated solely to men’s health.

Women, too, should consider a urological consultation whenever urinary symptoms or suspicious signs are present.
